The List of Dimasa Kachari Kings and Rulers – Kachari kingdom

Dimasa kingdom (known as Kachari kingdom) was a powerful kingdom
in medieval Assam that existed from the early 10th century (approximately) to the early 1830 century CE. The rulers of this kingdom were the Dimasa people who
belonged to a part of the greater Kachari ethnic group. This kingdom’s remnants survived till the British Empire’s advent in India. The origin of the Kachari
kingdom is shrouded in mystery; some believe that they were the descendants
of the son of Bhima, Ghatotkacha. According to the legends, Kachari also took
part in the Mahabharata war. Due to political turmoil, Dimasa Kachari had left the Kamarupa kingdom in ancient times.

While they were crossing the
Brahmaputra River (known as Dilao in Dimasa), many Kacharis could not cross this river and stayed back around the northern bank of the river. This group later became the Bodo people, but whoever could cross the mighty river was named the Dimasa meaning Son of the Big River.
