Charaideo
Charaideo was the first capital of the Ahom kingdom, established by Sukapha in 1253 CE. It is about only 30km from Sivasagar town. The first Ahom king Sukapha found his capital at Charaideo due to its high land which is safe from flood. There are 42 tombs of the Ahom kings and queens on the hilltop. These tombs can be compared with the Pyramids of Egypt.
Garhgaon
Garhgaon, the 3rd capital of Ahoms was established by Ahom monarch Suklengmung (1539-1552 AD). He was shifted from Charagua to Garhgaon, located on the bank of the river Dikhow. It is 13km away from Sivasagar town, after Charaideo and Garhgaon the most revered and well-known capital city of the Ahoms. It is surrounded by a brick wall about 2 miles in circumference. There are a number of remarkable buildings at Garhgaon that depict the Ahom style's architecture.
Kamakhya
Kamakhya Temple is one of the oldest tantric practices dedicated to the mother goddess, Kamakhya. It is located at Nilachal Hills 11km away from Guwahati.
Kareng Garh
Kareng Garh is a royal house of the Ahom kings which is situated in Garhgaon about 15km away from Sivasagar. It was 3rd capital of Tai-Ahoms founded by King Rudra Singha in 1539 AD. The monument is four storied building arranged in gradually receding tiers. The top floor has a dome-like roof with a chamber. The ground floor has three west-facing halls and is provided with a front and rear chamber. This palace was well-secured by digging canals around it and then building fort-like walls on the canals and with soil, which is called Garh.
Khaspur
Dimasa Kachari kings established their last capital at Khaspur in the middle of the 18th CE. It is about only 21km from Silchar. During the reign of Govind Chandra Narayan Hasnu, the last king of the Dimasa kingdom the arrival of the British East India Company annexed the whole empire in 1832 CE.
Rang Garh
Rang Ghar is a double-storeyed structure from the historical treasures of Assam which served as the royal, sports pavilion and was constructed to watch cultural programs, and traditional games such as buffalo fights and other games at the field basically during the Bihu festival. Ranghar was built by Swargadeo Pramatta Singha in 1744 CE. It is 3.6km away from Sivasagar district.
Siva Dol
Sivadol stands on the banks of the Sivasagar tank. It was built by Bar Raja Ambika, queen of Swargadeo Siva Singha in 1734 CE. The Sivadol is believed to be the tallest Shiva temple in India. It is capped by an eight feet high golden-dome. Every year during the Mahashivaratri, a huge mela is organized on the temple ground.
Sri Kedar Temple
The Hindu temple named Sri Kedar Temple in Assam is located at the top of Madanachala hill, Haju. The temple along with two adjacent walls built by Ahom king Rajeswara Singha in 1753 CE. It is only 32km away from Guwahati City.
Sri Surya Pahar
Sri Surya Pahar is a significant archeological site in Assam, India. It is about 12km away from Goalpara district. The site is centered on the hills(Pahar) of Sri Surya which is profusely filled up with Shiva Lingas. People have found 99999 Shiva Lingas were engraved here by Vyasa in order to build up a second Kashi (where there were 1,00000 Shiva Lingas) and once it was one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in the region. The Stone House of Maibang
Maibang was formerly the capital of the Dimasa kingdom. There is a stone house called “The Stone House of Maibang” built by Dimasa kachari king in the 16th century. The ruins of the kingdom can be still found on the bank of Mahur in Dima Hasao district. It is about 51km away from Haflong town.
